Kennel Update

25 Sep 2013 by Bob Foletta

It has happened again, another season of footy and netball has come to a close. The Under 18 boys went down in a nail biter to Woori while our a Reserve netball girls keep on doing what they have done for the last 2 years and won there 3rd premiership in a row. A great effort by both side to reach grand final day and for the girls to come from behind and win was a great achievement. With only presentationnight to go to celebrate the year, please make sure you contact either Matt Ewart or myself to organise payment. We need to give final numbers by October 4th. Don’t leave it to the last minute otherwise you will miss out on our biggest night of the year.

A Reserve Netball = PREMIERS!!!!!!! – the girls came into the game knowing that Monbulk was going to be a tough opposition. As Monbulk didn’t have an A Grade team this year, a few sneaky inclusions from Monbulk made them a tougher opposition than any other side they had faced during the year. he first half was a tough battle, we held a slender 1 goal lead at quarter time while Monbulk took a 2 goal buffer into half time. The 3rd was all Monbulk and it looked as though the game was slipping away from the girls. A couple of calls from the umpires seem to have the momentum all Monbulks way and at 3/4 time hey had jumped out to what looked like a game winning 7 goal lead. All year the girls have played great netball and the last quarter was no different. With a massive show of support from the kennel faithful, the noise they made was incredible and along with the girls lifting the tempo of the game, the support was starting to rattle Monbulk. A classic come from behind last quarter saw the girls out score Monbulk 16 goals to 6 and come away with a 3 goal win. Carly Baker (BOG) with 16 goals and Alex Priestley, 25 goals dominated up forward while down back Brogan Badrock & Kelly Nicol led the defense as Bec Elliott controlled the midfield. It was a great team effort and one that was celebrated long into the night and into the next day.

Under 18’s – in fantastic conditions at Healesville the young pups battled bravely for 4 quarters but just couldn’t get across the ine losing a tough low scoring game by 2 points to Woori Yallock. The boys tried but just couldn’t find the polish up forward to finish off the great work being done down back by the likes of Ben Chapman, Mitch Ebeyer and co. Mark, Mick and the boys have done agreat job this year and to get into another grand final is a marvellous achievement that they should all be very proud of. The Vets – one word and one word only – PREMIERS- the boys played a great 4 quarter game to demolish Marysville. The boys took control of the game early and even though they tried to resort to some very underhanded tactics that didnt have any effect other than showing the gap between the mighty dogs and the them. Paul Wolff slotted home 5 vintage goals, Andy Coppens was awarded the BOG medal for the game while Paul Rouget, John Urquart, Troy Lempriere, Mick Dann & Leroy Brown stamped there authority on the game. WELL DONE OLD SALTY DOGS!!!!!!!!

See you all at presentation night!!!!!! WOOF WOOF!!!!!!!!!!!
