Saturday April 15th saw the 1978 season kick off with Wandin travelling to Emerald. In what would be the first of 5 games against each other for the year Wandin won a close hard fought battle 12.9.81 to Emerald 11.11.77. Wandin won 4 out of the 5 games played against Emerald during the 1978 season with both sides making the Grand Final. Played at Marysville Wandin showed their dominance and won the clubs first senior GF by defeating Emerald by 43 points.
